Unlocking Silent Histories is a project that will assist youth in Lake Atitlan and the surrounding highlands to tell their stories. As a professor of education and technology, I am interested in how youth “read the world” and want to help them create a space to develop their identity and voice.
We do not yet know the stories that the youth will tell, but we do know that we have constructed a knowledgable team that will help these youth delve into their experiences to tell us compelling accounts of their lives and their histories. Each of us has a skill to share: writing stories, analyzing their assumptions, recording footage, translating thought into images, and more. With our team, we will work together to teach them to teach us about who they are. We are thrilled to have them invite us into their worlds.
We envision that this will be the first of many youth-directed documentaries that will be shared with other youth around the world. Thank you again for following our journey!
